Our curriculum is based on a different letter of the alphabet each week along with an accompanying thematic unit with age-appropriate hands-on activities for active and academic learning opportunities in all four areas of development - cognitive, social, emotional and physical. This approach enables children to acquire basic school readiness skills in meaningful ways by incorporating the three main ways that children learn - visual, auditory and kinesthetic -  into their learning experiences. Our teachers spend time with the children in small groups as well as one-on-one as they teach. Our classrooms are set up with various learning centers such as home living, dramatic play, transportation, blocks and other manipulatives, puzzles and games, etc. to reinforce hands-on opportunities for learning through play. The teachers add new props, self-directed activities, children’s books and other items that correspond to the weekly unit to stimulate learning and prevent boredom. Our curriculum also includes enrichment activities such as Technology, "Character Education" and Community Involvement Activities

What do you mean by “thematic unit?”

“For example, Along with the Letter R the children learn about Farm Animals, S and Pets, Z and Zoo Animals, J and Community Helpers, T and Teeth, V with Seeds and Plants, etc.”

What do you mean by “hands-on?”

“For example, when the lesson plan introduces a science activity such as how the sun fades paper or mixing baking soda and vinegar to make a “volcano” or experimenting with different items to see what will float and what will sink – every child has an opportunity to do the experiment instead of just watching a few children or the teacher do it. And rather than just being shown pictures of a veterinarian’s office in a storybook, the children also have the opportunity to play veterinarian in the dramatic play center in their classroom.

”Where do the themes and activities come from?

We use several resources from The Mailbox for Teachers, High Reach, Frog Street Press, Key Education and more.
